Parts

Theories of Democratic Transitions was organized as a Junior Tutorial at TCNJ that enrolls no more than 15 students at a time. Because of the seminar-structured nature, class was conducted a lot more around collective discussion, reading presentation, and questions and answers.

The curriculum was identical to that offered at Rutgers, but allowed me greater opportunity to work one on one with the students as they were building their research papers and collecting sources. Student response was overwhelmingly positive for the two semesters it was offered, and by my final semester at TCNJ in 2012, the class became, like it did at Rutgers, a culmination of student-teacher cooperation that for many began two to two and a half years ago.

Spring 2012

"Well developed PowerPoints and structured class discussions. I enjoyed Dr. Rossi's informal and relaxed teaching style. In addition, his anecdotes and wealth of knowledge on the topic greatly contributed to the class."

"Dr. Rossi is perhaps the best professor I've ever had. Not only was his enthusiasm refreshing, but his command of the subject matter was impressive and brilliant. He brought out the best work in me, both in class and in the writing assignments that were assigned. He was an amazing educator who gave every student his time and attention and worked hard to grow us as scholars and intellectuals."

"Incredibly excellent professor; best I've ever had. Very engaging, knowledgeable, interesting, excited and overall enthusiastic for every single second of every single lecture. Always accessible and dedicated to his students and to his work. I have learned an incredible amount during both classes I had with him and left with a completely new and informed outlook on the subject matter."
"Dr. Rossi was incredibly knowledgeable and displayed a lot of enthusiasm for the subject matter which made the class environment incredibly conducive to learning and sharing ideas. First and foremost he understood that he was here to help us learn and he emphasized this by always being available for help and students' concerns."
"This was quite possibly the greatest course I have taken at TCNJ - it has propelled me as a student to seek further research with corruption and the democratic consolidation of Serbia. It has sparked my interest in obtaining an MPA in conjunction with a JD at a university in Serbia in order to continue my research. I hope to use this information in the future for a government position. Rossi has been a great mentor and a great inspiration."
"Discussions had in class were relevant and interesting. I was not intimidated to show my thoughts. I was woefully unprepared for this course, but regardless I probably learned more in this class than any other."
"The best instructor I ever had. Has complete knowledge of every subject. A strong asset to the TCNJ community."
"The way the course was taught was a valuable learning tool throughout the semester. I really learned a lot. The environment was perfect."
"Rossi clearly knows the subjects he is talking about in great depth. Presents a very stimulating lecture with his comedy and insight. What we read out of class is what we discuss in class and write papers about. Asks a lot of questions to students that adds to the education."
"Enthusiasm about the topic. Injection of humor/humorous analysis. Thought-provoking questions/statements. Cares about the students. Very fair grader."
"All of it. Dr. Rossi has a vast amount of enthusiasm for the material and the class. He ties in outside references to make the material more understandable as is one of the best lecturers that I ever had."

"Outstanding teacher. This department needs more like him who legitimately care about subject matter."

"I dreaded this class since Freshman year. Instead, I never checked my watch during the 3 hours. Easily my favorite class this semester The enthusiasm communicated makes the material more interesting and easier to grasp. Also the repetition of key points and examples helped maintain the overall quality of the course."

"Always available to help. Easily the most 'available' professor I've had throughout college."
"He's insanely smart and clearly loves his job and his student. And we love him back! He's a great professor who keeps class interesting."
"Love him as a professor. Extremely intelligent man, very passionate about his field of study."
"Prof. Rossi was one of the best professors I have had at TCNJ. He is enthusiastic and passionate and obviously very well educated but still has a great ability to connect with his students."
"Prof. Rossi is extremely passionate in the field of study and the students can clearly see this. I personally feel I learned a lot from this course. He is an excellent professor from my perspective."

Spring 2012 "I feel greatly saddened and disappointed that this will be my last class with Dr. Rossi at TCNJ."
"It's a shame we're losing him next year. If he were here again, I'd take another one of his classes in a heartbeat. He received all 5's because he deserved them, not because I was lazy or am in love with him."
"Dr. Rossi is an extraordinary professor and I have greatly enjoyed every one of the classes I have taken with him. They were perhaps my favorite classes I've had at TCNJ."
"The course helped me to understand a lot of other aspects of my other political science courses and Dr. Rossi's teaching definitely helped contribute to that. I would have really wanted to take another one of his classes if it would have been an option."
"One of the best courses I have ever taken."
Spring 2011

"I've had Professor Rossi for 2 semesters now and will have him again next semester."

"These types of courses should be offered more. There is little exposure to comparative politics in classes not taught by Dr. Rossi."
